Draft for launch
This document is not yet in effect. It describes Attemper as it will work when it launches, and it may change before then.
The short version
- Use Attemper only for lawful business, and only on accounts and systems you are allowed to act in.
- Follow the terms and limits of every service you connect. Attemper is not a way around them.
- No spam, fraud, malware, harassment or surveillance, and nothing that could hurt someone if it failed.
- You supervise the agents you connect. What they do through Attemper is your responsibility.
This summary helps you read the document. It is not part of it, and the full text below is what applies.

1. What this policy covers
This policy is part of Attemper's Terms of Service. It applies to everyone who uses Attemper: you, the Members of your workspace, and every Agent and Entry Point you set up, including runs that happen when nobody is watching. Words with a capital letter have the meaning the Terms give them. If something is not listed here but is harmful in the same way as what is, it is not allowed either.
2. Follow the law
Do not use Attemper to break any law or regulation, or to help someone else break one. This includes laws on privacy and data protection, consumer protection, anti-discrimination, export controls and sanctions, anti-money-laundering, gambling, securities, intellectual property, and electronic communications.
3. Only act where you are allowed to
- Connect only accounts, systems and data you are authorized to use, and let Attemper act in them only as far as you are authorized to.
- Do not use Attemper to access, or try to access, any account, system or data without permission, including by guessing, stuffing or sharing credentials.
- Test the security of a system only if you own it or have written permission from its owner.
- Do not use Attemper to collect or store other people's credentials without their knowledge.
4. Respect the services you connect
- Follow the terms, policies and usage limits of every Connected Service.
- Do not use Attemper to get around a Connected Service's rate limits, access controls, paywalls, bot protections or other technical measures.
- Do not use Attemper to scrape or bulk-collect data from a service whose terms forbid it, or to create accounts in bulk.
- If a Connected Service asks you to stop an activity, stop it in Attemper too.
5. No spam or unwanted messages
- Do not use Attemper to send unsolicited bulk messages, by email, text, chat or any other channel.
- Messages you send through a runbook must follow the laws that apply to them, including the CAN-SPAM Act, Washington's Commercial Electronic Mail Act, Washington's laws on commercial text messages and automatic dialing, and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, and must have whatever consent those laws require.
- Do not use Attemper to place automated or prerecorded calls or texts without the consent the law requires.
6. Do not harm people
- Do not harass, threaten, stalk or intimidate anyone, or monitor or track people without their knowledge and any consent the law requires.
- Do not use Attemper to discriminate unlawfully against anyone.
- Do not use Attemper to make fully automated decisions about a person's employment, housing, credit, insurance, education, health care or access to essential services where the law requires a person to review the decision, unless your runbook gives a person that review.
- Do not process the personal information of children under 13, or the other data section 9 of the Terms keeps out of Attemper, unless we have agreed in writing.
7. No fraud, malware or harmful content
- No fraud, phishing, deception or impersonation, including pretending to be another person or company.
- No malware, ransomware, viruses or any code meant to damage, disrupt or take control of a system.
- No content that sexually exploits children. We report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
- No content that infringes anyone's intellectual property or that you have no right to use.
8. Not for systems where a failure could hurt someone
Attemper is not designed to control systems where a delay, a failure or a wrong action could cause death, injury, or serious physical or environmental damage, such as medical devices, vehicles, aircraft, industrial control systems or emergency services. Do not use it for them.
9. Use the Service fairly
- Do not overload, attack or disrupt the Service or the networks it runs on.
- Do not get around the Service's limits, or the controls it gives other people, such as a step another person marked to ask first.
- Do not try to access another customer's workspace, runs or data.
- Do not probe or test the Service's security without our permission. If you find a vulnerability, report it as our Security page describes.
- Do not resell or offer the Service to others as a standalone service without our written agreement.
- Do not use the Service to mine cryptocurrency.
10. You supervise your agents
- Keep track of the Agents you connect and the Entry Points you create, and remove the ones you no longer use.
- Do not instruct an Agent to do through Attemper anything this policy forbids you to do.
- Do not use Attemper to send content designed to manipulate another customer's Agents or to make them act against their owner's instructions.
- Do not try to hide or falsify what ran, or to make a Run Record say something that did not happen.
- If a runbook or Agent talks or writes to people for you, tell them they are dealing with an automated system where the law requires it.
11. How we enforce this policy
If we reasonably believe this policy is being broken, we may investigate, stop or block runs, suspend a runbook, an Entry Point, a connection or a workspace, and remove content. Where the law requires or allows it, we may also report the activity to law enforcement or to an affected Connected Service. Where it is reasonable and lawful, we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. Repeated or serious violations may end your use of Attemper under the Terms.
12. Reporting a problem
To report abuse or a possible violation of this policy, email [contact email] with as much detail as you can, such as when it happened, which of your systems received it, and any request details you have. Never send us a key or secret.
